A number of hair restoration surgeries performed by Dr. Mark DiStefano are used to correct the appearance of poorly executed hair transplants, old plug-procedures and scalp reductions that were performed by other Dr's. Dr. DiStefano can often improve the cosmetic appearance of those who have had even the worst hair restoration procedures.

Dr. DiStefano uses a combination of removing large plugs and micro grafts and then dissecting those into individual hairs. He then transplants them back into the scalp to achieve a natural look. He will also transplant large numbers of natural looking grafts throughout the old plug procedures to camouflage the unsightly "old school methods".

Lastly, quite often people are concerned about the existing scar in the donor area from previous hair transplant procedures Dr. DiStefano uses FUE/IGT to transplant follicles to camouflage a widened donor scar. In this technique, hair is extracted from around the area of the linear scar and then placed directly into it. FUE/IGT is also used in patients who have a normal line scar, but decide to wear the hair in the back and sides of their scalp very short. In this case, the grafts removed through direct extraction can hide the original linear scar.

Dr. DiStefano also does another method of scar revisions in the donor area. He will often cut out the scar tissue and close up the area using trichophytic closure. The trichophytic closure is a method of preparing one side of the surgical wound to allow the hair follicles on the margin of the incision to produce hair that will grow through the scar.
